Helix Arts has delivered high quality, safe arts experiences throughout the pandemic.

On Monday 19th July, most restrictions associated with pandemic were lifted and wearing a face covering is now a personal choice in England, however we also know many people may still choose to wear face covering, particularly those who are more vulnerable.

We are committed to ensuring all our participants, partners, volunteers, artists and employees are kept as safe as possible. So, for the time being, we will be continuing to encourage everyone taking part in in-person sessions (unless exempt) to wear face coverings, maintain social distancing, regularly sanitise their hands and to not attend sessions if they feel unwell or have a high temperature.

Thank you for your understanding.

Examining an old document about North Shields

Howard Street and Northumberland Square include some of the best parts of North Shields' Georgian and Victorian town centre with some strikingly elegant buildings and public spaces. The area links up the newly regenerated Fish Quay on the Tyne with the town centre.

Members of North Tyneside’s voluntary and community sector have been working with local artists to unearth and share fascinating stories of life on Howard Street in North Shields. The work is being delivered as part of the wider High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) project which forms part of North Tyneside Council’s ambitious master plan to transform North Shields town centre and riverside.

As part of the VODA-led partnership, we are delivering three Make It Happen volunteer programmes that will support and empower individuals and community groups to work alongside professional artists to co-produce arts and cultural events inspired by the heritage of our Heritage Action Zone.

Delivered through a series of bespoke workshops, volunteers will be supported to plan, do, and review their own community art projects. Sessions will cover ideas development, programme planning, management and coordination, artist recruitment and management, budget, and controls, monitoring and evaluation. Each Make It Happen programme will culminate in a celebration and showcase event held at The Exchange.
