Our Falling On Your Feet dance programme has been nominated for this year's Fantastic for Families Best Age-Friendly Outreach Award.

Winners will be announced in the Fantastic for Families Awards Online Ceremony on Thursday 28 November, 6.30pm.

Falling On Your Feet is a dance-for-health programme delivered across the North East for over 10 years. Falling On Your Feet in North Tyneside supports people aged 55+ and works alongside professional dance artists.

The core aims are connection, creativity and wellbeing. Participants co-created dance together over 30 sessions (half dance and half social time) around various themes to tell their stories.

As participants’ strength, balance and flexibility improves, falls are prevented. It tackles health conditions – obesity, cardiovascular disease, memory – enabling people to connect and reducing isolation. Confidence soared in participants and they performed at Helix Arts’ 40th anniversary event to an audience of over 100.

“I was never going to be the old lady sitting in a rocking chair with a blanket over me knees. So when my friend told me she was coming here, I thought I might just give it a go. I just love it. It’s been good fun… I think this performance has the potential to change the way people think about what older people can do.” – Participant
