Deep diving into young people’s knowledge

Building upon our work in #Never during 2023 – 2024 which was commissioned by North Tyneside Public Health, we partnered with local alternative providers Moorbridge Alternative Education Provision.

The aim was to continue developing on our borough-wide learning. Responding to key findings from the original project and the  North Tyneside Drugs Strategy.

Addressing and exploring key issues such as generational shift, the reasons for use and types of drugs in circulation we worked with young people to get creative and co-design the programme.

Working with a small group of young people we initially took part in a series of listening sessions both part of the Bottled Up service and exploring previous #Never insights. This then led to some co-design workshops with young people selecting their artform of photography and the type of artist they wanted to work with.

Transforming insights to images

Working with artist Debbie Todd, young people re-created their insights with the use of props. Developing skills in composition, image editing and creating their own style, each young person created and featured in images which showcased:

  • Types of drugs in use
  • Reasons for taking drugs
  • Effects of use
'

“Taking drugs can leave you feeling alone and physically numb.”

'

“When you take drugs, you become hidden from the real world.”
