Mapping yourself

Having completed their Make Art Happen training, students partnered with RT Projects to develop the project ‘Mapping Yourself’ for the local Men’s Shed group in Durham.

Working with lead artist Bruce Davies the participants were encouraged to create pieces of 2D art which mapped themselves geographically in Durham as well creating their own abstract artwork representing the shape of their personal journey. Aiming to improve participants mental health through art, these workshops provided a new form of expression as well as the chance to visit artworks within the university immersing themselves in some of the local art available to them.

“I feel that having completed this course I am now more aware of what participatory arts means. I feel that I have developed more of an understanding of the different groups that can participate/ should gain more experience in the arts and the various ways and art forms that they can get involved with. Also, the huge difference that such projects can make to their lives has really been made apparent.”
