Helix Arts has been co-producing, co-curating and co-evaluating great art since 1983. We work with high quality artists and with people in diverse communities who lack opportunities to enjoy a rich cultural life.

We are the only Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation of our type in the North East of England. Unusually we work across all art forms with people of all ages, of all abilities whatever their circumstances.
We have been based in North Shields since autumn 2017 and we run arts programmes across the region.
We have an ambitious business plan for the next 4 years and we are keen to welcome new Trustees to our Board to support the CEO to deliver it.
We are seeking exceptional candidates from diverse backgrounds and with a mix of skills. We are particularly keen to appoint people with experience in sales; volunteering; medicine and/or criminal justice.
Alison Shaw has been Helix Arts’ Chair since 2016 and has wide ranging experience in educational leadership. She is also the David Goldman Visiting Professor of Innovation and Enterprise for 2018 at Newcastle University Business School. Alison is responsible for leading the team of Trustees, chairing meetings, advocating Helix Arts to its stakeholders while guiding and line managing the CEO.

The Board meets at least four times a year in North Shields. Trustees may also be asked to sit on working groups.
