Open Doors Fund – Spotify

Young people from Our Place in this Place took part in a Spotify takeover day.

Young people from across the UK came together in London for a vibrant and inspiring celebration of the Open Doors Fund, a collaborative initiative between Youth Music and Spotify aimed at breaking down barriers to music-making for young creatives.

The event highlighted the importance of accessible youth spaces and the transformative role music can play in young people’s lives. Hosted at Spotify’s London headquarters, the day offered a unique opportunity for participants to explore the music industry from the inside out.

Attendees took part in a range of interactive workshops and behind-the-scenes experiences, designed to spark creativity and build confidence. From music production to performance, the sessions gave young people the tools and encouragement to express themselves and develop their skills.

A key moment of the day was a panel discussion featuring representatives from Girl Grind (Birmingham) and artist Kojey Radical. The speakers shared their personal journeys and reflected on the impact of youth spaces in shaping their careers. Their stories underscored the importance of inclusive, supportive environments where young talent can thrive.

Another highlight was a songwriting and rap workshop led by artist Guvna B. Participants were encouraged to explore their own stories and styles, regardless of experience level. The session fostered a sense of collaboration and empowerment, with young people creating original lyrics.

The day concluded with live performances from rising artist Nat Oakes and headliner Kojey Radical.

This event was a celebration not only of music, but of opportunity, creativity, and community. Thank you to Youth Music and Spotify for making this experience possible and for continuing to invest in the next generation of music makers.

“Our day has been fantastic and it’s been a roller coaster. Just going down the roller coaster and once you hit your goal you’ll get there. Coming to Spotify Studios was absolutely amazing!”
