Make It Happen is happening in Whitley Bay!
Community Development / Training / Volunteering / Social Justice / North Tyneside
Over Summer 2024, local residents and attendees of Whitley Bay Big Local took part in Helix Arts’ Make It Happen Programme. A capacity building programme which allows volunteers to develop skills in budgeting, idea development and participatory art projects.
Working together over 18 training and planning sessions, a core group of 5 volunteers worked together not only developing new skills but to develop ‘Whitley Bay Wellbeing Weekender’.
A two day event in December, participants were invited to a ‘transformative weekend of relaxation, self-care and personal growth’.
Employing 9 local artists, the volunteers arranged a series of one-off workshops including; ceramic leaf printing; dream booths; an introduction to creative journaling; zine making and much more.
This project is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UK SPF).
