Make It Happen is coming for artists in Summer 2024!

Are you interested in producing participatory and community-led art projects?

Would you like to participate in a FREE, real-world training programme to gain skills in producing participatory art projects?

Are you eager to connect with the vibrant communities of North Tyneside through a participatory art project?

Make it Happen (MIH) is a Helix Arts initiative offering training in participatory art production and support in developing a project plan, budget, and pitch proposal.

 

A six week training course, artists at the end of the training will be invited to pitch their projects for the opportunity of one commission up to the value of £1,500 by December 2024. 

The face-to-face programme will run over six weeks and be supported by professional producers in the field, running from August to September 2024. 

Throughout this course you will explore:

  • Week One: Introduction to Participatory Arts and Project Drivers
  • Week Two: Aims & Objectives, Roles & Responsibilities
  • Week Three: Project tools, planning and ingredients
  • Week Four: Financial Management and Risk Management 
  • Week Five: Artist Recruitment
  • Week Six: Monitoring & Evaluation

Elligibility

  • To identify as living in North Tyneside
  • To have begun to, or are thinking about, creatively engaging communities in North Tyneside
  • Interested in developing a project around issues that matter to the community
  • To be available to attend the training course from August to September (6 sessions, up to 3 hours each)
  • To have the ability and willingness to undertake self-directed work in between sessions
  • To hold basic computer skills and a current email address
  • To be interested in producing a community participatory project by December 2024.

You can do this online or through submitting in alternative formats.

If you would prefer to submit your application in an alternative format, we will accept a video application no longer than 3 minutes, a completed Word/PDF version of the application, voice note responses to the questions in the application.   

Places for this course are limited and will be selected based on eligibility. 

Culturally and linguistically diverse artists are highly encouraged to apply.

Deadline for submissions is Friday 26 July 2024.
