October 2008
The Choices programme is celebrating winning the national Koestler Award (arts by young offenders) for the film Who Am I? produced by Toni with Kate Sweeney as part of the Filmmaker in Residence Programme 2007/08. The film won the Merit Award and Toni will also receive a prize in recognition of her achievement and hard work. The film is being shown at the Southbank Centre (Royal Festival Hall), London from 27 September to 8 November 2008 as part of the Youth Justice Board 10-year celebrations. Who am I? is also being screened at the Co-operative Young Film-makers Festival in Bradford on 9 October 2008.
Choices has also received the exciting news that the BFFS (British Federation of Film Societies) are using the film My World, produced by the Choices project with IF Films and Live Theatre, as a short film in support of the film ‘Klass’ produced by an Estonian film company, which will be first screened at the National Conference and Film Society of the Year Awards in Sheffield and then hired to independent cinemas/film societies to be screened across the UK.
The Moving On programme is very pleased to report that one of the young people participating in the Moving On workshops with Sunderland ISSP over the last 12 months has started the Introductory Diploma in Art and Design at Sunderland College. All at Helix Arts congratulate him on his hard work and wish him every success for the future.
